4 Common Marijuana Edibles Mistakes & How to Avoid Them

Whether you are cooking or consuming your medical marijuana edibles (or both!) there are a few common mistakes that can lead to bad experiences. In order to receive the full and safest benefits from this powerful healing plant, make sure to avoid these common mistakes:

1. DON’T EAT TOO MUCH

This is especially true for new medical marijuana patients who might not realize that edibles are an entirely different game. REMEMBER: edibles take much longer to kick in. Just be patient and stick to the recommended dosage!

Overdosing could lead to side-effects including:

  • Shakiness/tremors
  • Dry mouth and throat
  • Paranoia
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Mental confusion

2. NOT KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT

Different methods of consuming medical marijuana lead to very different effects. When it comes to edibles, these usually result in more intense body highs. If you are new to the world of marijuana, make sure to talk to an expert so you know what to expect and aren’t caught off guard.

**TIP** If you do happen to get too high, it’s important to know how to sober up. Foods such as pine nuts, citrus fruits and pistachios may help the process. Water is also a great way to detoxify your body.

3. MAKING SMALL BATCHES

While it might seem like a better idea to make small batches so you can try out your edibles, it’s actually much easier to control your dosage and know what to expect when you make larger batches, given that they are more consistent.

4. BELIEVING THAT BROWNIES & COOKIES ARE THE ONLY MARIJUANA EDIBLES

Many new patients mistakenly believe that sweets are the only kind of edibles you can make with marijuana. However, almost any food can be infused with cannabis including:

  • Cheese biscuits and savory pretzels
  • Beef jerky
  • Nut mixes
  • Potato chips
  • Main meals including pot pies, mac & cheese, soup and more!
